“ The Rainbow Community created the ""Group-home,"" which is a family-type education facility for intellectually disabled persons for the first time in Korea. It has made efforts to expand such facilities to all corners of the country and helped the intellectually disabled not to be alienated from society but to live with neighbours.”
The Rainbow Community is running 16 Group-homes in Gwangju, supporting 80 intellectually disabled persons, and the Group-home was highly appreciated as a practical model to help the disabled. At present, 600 Group-homes are in operation across the nation.
※ Group-home : Helps the intellectually disabled to adapt to society and stand on their own feet, with each Group-home training up to 5 intellectually disabled people in basic living and simple job skills as they live together with a social rehabilitation teacher in an apartment (condominium) or a single-family house within a local community.
Since 1985, the Community opened its own work facilities and has supported the disabled by hiring them according to their degree of disability and ability or helping them to be hired by a private company so that they can be financially independent.
