Hello, this is the POSCO TJ Park Foundation.

On March 12, the POSCO Asia Fellowship held an orientation for newly admitted international scholars at the POSCO Center Art Hall. The event provided an opportunity for new scholars to learn about their obligations, hear presentations from a senior fellow, and attend an expert lecture on Korean culture together. The orientation was a meaningful and enjoyable time for all participants.

A total of 18 new scholars participated, along with 8 senior fellows who joined to welcome and encourage them. Before the official program began, attendees had the chance to take photos at a photo booth and engage in friendly conversations while enjoying refreshments. Despite meeting for the first time, they quickly bonded over their shared experience as POSCO Asia Fellowship scholars.

Following the welcoming remarks, we conducted an orientation for the new students. The POSCO Asia Fellowship coordinator provided detailed explanations about the essential schedules that scholars must attend, important precautions, the scholarship payment method, required documents, and other points that scholars were curious about.

Next, we had a presentation by a graduate fellow. They shared valuable tips they gained while pursuing their Ph.D. in Korea, as well as insights of being a POSCO Asia Fellow, which are not easily found elsewhere. The graduate fellow shared many useful stories and experiences. Here is an excerpt from his speech:

The orientation also included an expert lecture designed to help scholars adapt smoothly to life in Korea. The lecture provided insights into Korean culture and practical information for a safe and successful study experience. Scholars also learned strategies for managing academic stress and effective communication techniques. They participated in an engaging activity where they wrote motivational words for themselves and shared them with each other as a form of encouragement.

The POSCO Asia Fellowship is a scholarship program that invites around 50 talented students from Asian countries to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees at top Korean universities such as POSTECH, Seoul National University, Yonsei University, and Korea University. The program provides full tuition and living expenses to support their academic endeavors. POSCO TJ Park Foundation remains committed to fostering future leaders by supporting outstanding students from Asia as they study in Korea and contribute to their home countries upon their return.
