Pohang Myungdo School Wins the Most Medals at the Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities!

Pohang Myungdo School, Winner of the 2025 POSCO TJ Park Education Prize, Shines at the 19th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities. Pohang Myungdo School participated in the 19th National Sports Festival for Students with Disabilities, held across Gyeongsangnam-do from May 13 to 16. Competing in two events—weightlifting and athletics—the school earned a remarkable 26 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal, along with 15 new student records, making it the top medal-winning special education school in the country.
Hosted by the Korea Paralympic Committee and organized by Gyeongsangnam-do, the national event brought together over 4,000 participants from 17 regional teams, including athletes, coaches, and staff. Pohang Myungdo School was represented by 9 students in weightlifting and 5 in athletics.
In the weightlifting competition, students Noh Ji-hoon, Kim Ji-woo, Choi Ye-rin, Jeon Hyun-seok, Lee Tae-min, Yoon Na-yeon, and Kim Heon-jung each won three gold medals, while Kim Dong-hyung and Hwang Sung-bin took home two gold medals each. Notably, Choi Ye-rin, a third-year middle school student, claimed her fourth consecutive triple crown in the girls’ middle school 50kg weight class—a truly outstanding achievement.
Principal Jeon Yong-seok of Pohang Myungdo School stated, “Our students achieved these outstanding results thanks to their dedication and hard work, guided by our school's physical education teachers and specialized coaches since the winter break. I am incredibly proud of the students who have brought great honor to our school. We will continue to actively support the development of sports teams in special education schools and ensure strong performances at the upcoming 27th Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Festival for Persons with Disabilities, starting on May 22.”
