- Selects 83 outstanding first-year high school students from Pohang and Gwangyang for new scholarships, with support available for up to three years through graduation

The POSCO TJ Park Foundation (Chairman: Chang In-hwa) held the 2026 POSCO Lighthouse Scholarship Certificate Presentation Ceremonies on July 30 at Baekun Education Center in Gwangyang and on July 31 at Hyoja Art Hall in Pohang. The ceremonies were attended by newly selected scholars, their parents, and representatives from local education support offices, who gathered to celebrate and encourage the students as they take the next steps toward their futures.

 

This year, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation selected 83 new Lighthouse Scholars to support a stable learning environment and nurture future talent among high school students in Pohang and Gwangyang. Including 141 second- and third-year students who were previously selected and continue to receive support, a total of 224 students are receiving support this year.

 

Beginning this year, the POSCO Lighthouse Scholarship program has adopted a new selection system focused on first-year high school students. A total of 83 exemplary first-year students with outstanding academic performance and good character were selected from 37 high schools in Pohang and Gwangyang. Following an annual review, the scholars will receive stable support for up to three years through high school graduation.

 

Each selected scholar receives a scholarship of KRW 1 million, along with a six-week structured mentoring program designed to support learning and career planning, as well as university admissions consulting. These programs are designed to provide more practical support for students’ academic development and preparation for higher education.

 

Launched in 2020, the POSCO Lighthouse Scholarship program marks its seventh year in 2026. Over the past seven years, the program has provided scholarships and educational programs to a cumulative total of 1,422 students, establishing itself as a leading scholarship initiative in the Pohang and Gwangyang communities.

 

A representative of the POSCO TJ Park Foundation said, “With the new selection system, we can now provide more long-term and systematic support from the time students enter high school through graduation. We hope that, through enhanced mentoring and university admissions consulting, young people in the region will be able to set concrete goals and fully realize their potential.”

 

Meanwhile, the POSCO TJ Park Foundation, which began as the Steel Scholarship Association in 1971, has served as a steadfast supporter of future talent for more than half a century, helping young people pursue their dreams regardless of their financial circumstances. In addition to the POSCO Lighthouse Scholarship, the Foundation continues to operate a range of scholarship programs, including the POSCO Vision Scholarship, which provides KRW 5 million annually to university freshmen from Pohang and Gwangyang through graduation.
