POSCO TJ Park Foundation awarded the certificate of 2019 POSCO Vision Scholarship to 50 students at POSCO International Center in Pohang on Feb 27.
POSCO Vision Scholarship is a scholarship program that supports 4-year college scholarship for the young people in Pohang and Gwangyang areas, who are committed to study with good personality in a difficult environment, to grow up as excellent members of our society.
Especially, this year, POSCO Vision Scholarship has expanded the scholarship eligibility to those from the third-tier household in earnings and increased the number of scholarship students from 15 to 50 in order to practice 'Corporate citizens that develop with local communities', which is POSCO's new management philosophy, and to contribute to the dissolution of polarization, which is the biggest issue of our society and will support a total of 200 college students from the first to the fourth grade.
About 100 people attended the scholarship ceremony, including 50 students selected for POSCO Vision Scholarship this year; Oh, Hyung-soo, the Director of Pohang Steel Mill; Kim Young-seok, the Director of Pohang Office of Education; Jeong, Gi-seok, the Director of Pohang City Welfare Bureau; and Oh, Dong-ho, the Executive Director of POSCO TJ Park Foundation.
Oh, Hyung-soo, the Director of Pohang Steel Mill encouraged the scholarship students to become strong persons who love themselves who do not fear failures even if the environment given to them is somewhat difficult and hard to overcome, by saying: “In the future, you should not neglect your efforts to develop and cultivate your potentials steadily for achieving you dreams through college life.”
POSCO TJ Park Foundation plans to hold a one-night and two-day workshop during the summer vacation for the students selected for POSCO Vision Scholarship this year, so that they have a better understanding of the history of POSCO and build up a network among scholarship students.
POSCO Vision Scholarship students will be selected through the documentary review and interviews after online application through POSCO TJ Park Foundation website (http://www.postf.org) between Jan and Feb every year. Students who are finally selected will receive a student grant of KRW 3.6 million per year for a maximum of eight semesters.
